First Aid Course

1 Day Basic First Aid

  • 6 hour training course, HSE approved and Certificated especially tailored to suit sports coaches.
  • Meets the criteria set by National Governing Bodies for Sport for coaches insurance purposes.

The programme focuses on key lifesaving skills, provides an opportunity to learn the first aid response to the most common accidents and situations, and is underpinned by relevant theory. This is for all coaches or volunteers wanting a basic understanding of emergency care as well as a basic grasp of related clinical theories. Course Outline Respond to the needs of unconscious casualties inncluding placing an unconscious person in the recovery position. Perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Participants will be taught how to lift the chin to open the airway, give effective rescue breaths and perform chest compressions. The programme also covers the different techniques for adults, children and infants. All learners will be given the opportunity to practice their skills on a resuscitation manikin. Respond to the needs of casualties with major injuries. Participants will cover all of the following by observation:

  • Significant blood loss
  • Shock
  • Muscular / skeletal injury
  • Burns and scalds

Assessment and Certification Cost: £30/Person Maximum of 12 Candidates Participants will leave with either a certificate of competence or a voucher of attendance. This is a HSE certificate candidates will receive at the end.

Sports Coach First Aid

This 12 hour first aid course is recommended by the SFA for sports coaches. Course content includes:

  • Resuscitation
  • Strains and Sprains
  • Unconsciousness
  • Head injuries
  • Broken bones
  • Bleeding etc.

2 Day Appointed Person

This course is similar to the one day but with a more time to take in the information. The course is delivered over 1½ days with the second afternoon an opportunity to practice on casualties with stage wound make up etc. Course dates arranged to suit.

Infant and Child Module

A 3 hour session designed to fill in the gap on First Aid at Work and Appointed Person courses. This course is available for those who hold one of the previously detailed courses, or simply want to be able to deal with basic children’s emergencies. Course contents include:

  • Infant and child resuscitation
  • Unconscious infants/children
  • Common injuries and illnesses

H.S.E. First Aid at Work

This four day course is suitable for those who require the qualification to fulfil the role of 'Designated' First Aider. Course is held over 2 x 2 day sessions. In-house courses can be arranged over any combination of 4 days. The course covers all requirements of the H.S.E. Course contents include:

  • Assessing an incident
  • Resuscitation
  • Care of the unconscious casualty
  • Blood loss and shock
  • Broken bones
  • Major and minor injuries/illness
  • Recording and reporting

H.S.E. First Aid at Work (Refresher)

This two day course is to requalify those persons who already hold the First Aid at Work certificate. The course must be undertaken every 3 years to maintain validity. Course contents are as the 4 day. Courses held over 2 consecutive days. In-house courses can be arranged over 2 preferred days. Final afternoon is assessment.

Defibrillator Training

With the introduction of defibrillators into workplace and community settings, this 3 hour course is designed to train the delegate in the use of the Defibrillator. Course contents include:

  • Resuscitation practise
  • Setting up the Defib
  • Application and use

Parents First Aid

This is a six hour course which is designed with the needs of parents in mind. The course can be delivered in one session or 2 half sessions. Course contents include: Resuscitation, Meningitis, Croup, Choking, Head bumps, Anaphylactic shock, Asthma, Nosebleeds Infantile convulsions, Epilepsy, Burns, Bleeding and shock, Bites to tongue, cheek etc
